I'm no environmental economist, but something doesn't seem quite right about this quote:
"[Sugar] is a vital ingredient in the nation's food supply and you do not want to turn that over, in a great portion, to foreign suppliers... then you [will] end up being dependent, as we are on foreign oil."

I realize that, as a nation, Twinkies come in a close second to gasoline on our list of things we can't do without. However, I like to think that (1) we would not go to war over sugar and (2) if major sugar shortages occurred, we'd be able to get by using alternative fuel sources to power our bodies.
You know. Like veggies.
