Plug: New gnovis issue, and a new gnovis/drupal theme

Just a quick plug to promote the publication of a new issue at gnovis, where I am entering my second year as Managing Editor.

It's our first ever summer issue, as well as our first themed issue on "Media, Technology & Democracy." I won't offer much commentary, since I've written a rather verbose editor's note in the issue itself, but I will say that overall I'm very pleased with all of our accomplishments this year, and I think this particular issue is a fitting finale for the (academic) year.

More relevantly, for this blog, is this other bit of news -- I used the launch of the special issue as an opportunity to relaunch the gnovis site with a new theme:

It's not entirely polished, as I was in quite a rush, but I'm very happy with the overall look. I think it captures the right tone to suggest gnovis' new media interests, but without completely abandoning its academic roots. The theme is based on the Zen theme (actually, it's a subtheme of the Zen theme). One of the things that I love about the Zen theme is the inclusion of editing and configuration links on all blocks, views, etc, so I don't have to go digging through the admin area to change such things. My Firefox tab bar is grateful for the rest.

The site is still running Drupal 5, but I'll get it upgraded to 6 later in the year. I was delighted, though, to add the OpenID module.
