Topic “My Life”

Topic Launch: My Life (and the approximately 29 books that best chronicle it)

Part 3 of 6 in a series discussing the 6 broad "topics" that I've incorporated into the latest design of my site. In this post I will give a quick update on my life right now, because that's what the "My Life" category is all about. No further explanation needed.

Node 66: Underblog -or- A Much Overdue Update

It's a little sad to realize that, roughly 15 months since I switched my website over to Drupal, this is only my 66th node... which includes several static pages, some backdated entries from my livejournal, and some unpublished and deleted posts. I really need to blog more, both here and at gnovis.

Race Report: Scope it Out 5k

I've decided to start posting about my races. This is pretty off-topic, so sometime soon I'll split them off into a separate RSS feed, so my drupal and critical theory readers don't have to read about me sweating.

the evidence

Old news, I know, but now it can't be denied...

conceptualizing the painfully slow march of people, things, and time

Since I started work on my Apprenticeship in Teaching (AT) curriculum (which gives me a little annotation on my masters degree), I've been increasingly attentive to the way I engage with course material, both as a student an instructor.

This led me, today, to a rather profound realization about myself. Without being coy, I'll reveal it through examples...

Things that really catch my interest

  • Nelson Mandela, and the conditions of South African history that led to the circumstances of his life

an update on the subtly dramatic changes in my life

While I'm trying to focus on strictly academic and analytic topics on this site, it's inevitable - particularly during the summer, when I'm out of school - that some of my posts will end up being about my life. Such as this one.

After a brutally exhausting first year in graduate school, I've been looking for an excuse to slow down, at least in terms of my coursework. The financial pressure to put in more hours at work has played a role, as well. Well, turns out it would be a number of forces that would lead me to reduce my coursework... but that hardly means I won't be frantically busy.

doh... instant karma

Generally speaking, I'm going to try to stay away from anecdotal posts like the ones I've written in the past, in the interest of trying to build a useful academic space on this site. However, this amused me to no end...

I just had lunch with a friend and, as we parted ways outside the restaurant, I stepped into the street without looking to my right. I realized what I was doing halfway across, and turned to see a big delivery truck coming towards me. Rather than stopping and waiting or, better yet, returning to the curb, I chose to run across the street, in front of the truck.

spring course quick review

A quick update on my course progress. I like doing this for the same reason I like blogging about my papers... it helps me synthesize everything and ground my current activities in a broader educational narrative.

Postmodernism

oh, by the way... Announcement: sleepcamel.net Relaunch!

i'm sure it's pretty obvious at this point, but i guess i should formally announce that i've relaunched sleepcamel.net with a new look and a new backend. i haven't bothered to go through my old livejournal entries, nor have i moved any of my old content, but i really just wanted to get it back up so I could start blogging again. i'll probably do more migration later. or maybe not.
